Muruga bronze statue
Kartikeya is born to Shiva and Parvathi to destroy the daemon Tarakasura. He is the god of war and the possessor of transcendental knowledge.
He is the Devasenapathi who was reared by six divine mothers of the constellation Krittika.
The six faces symbolize the five sense organs and the mind through which the supreme Self-expresses itself in human beings.
He bears the following objects in his hands: a lance called sakti, arrow, sword, disc, noose, abhaya mudra (in right hands). The lower left hand is in varada (boon-giving) pose.
Subrahmanya is seated on peacock with the left leg in utkutika pose. His peacock vehicle is called Indranilaratha. Exceptional splendour – rich costume and lavish jewels, defines this bronze statue.
The serpent symbolizes the ego that is controlled by the peacock. Here the snake also represents the time that is held in captivity.
The peacock has a snake also in its beak. Obviously, it suggests that Murugan is beyond time and holds it standstill.
In this artefact the peacock is seen with a beautiful plumage, which shows creation in all its glory. Hence, he rides it, the Supreme Lord who is the master of Creation.
Ancient Tamilians named their deity as Murugan, which means the embodiment of beauty, wisdom and Supreme power.
